Controlled Assessment in GCSE History

The controlled assessment element will be introduced in GCSEs from September 2009. Controlled assessment is intended to address issues relating to task setting, taking and marking that have been raised in reviews of coursework. Awarding bodies can provide further details about controlled assessment requirements for specific GCSEs.

Controlled assessments have been piloted in a range of subjects, setting tasks that followed awarding body guidelines, fitted the school’s circumstances and covered the GCSE assessment objectives. Egglescliffe School in Stockton-on-Tees is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school. It has conducted a Controlled Assessment in GCSE History
